You are here because you surround yourself with things that you love. You look at life as a wonderful place, filled with beauty, light, and joy. You’re grateful for what you have, you work hard for the things you want, and you are as nice to yourself as to those you love. You want your space, your life, to have meaning, and everyone and everything you choose to add to it brings great [positive] vibes only and more joy to your soul. When I draw, it is as much for me as it is for women like you. I create pieces to add more charm and loveliness to your life, which you will look at for years and smile. My goal is to show the world women that have style and substance and to show that all girls are pretty, regardless of where they come from, their color or of their size. The illustrations are your sisters, your friends, you or who you see yourself as being deep inside. They add color to small work spaces, glamour to your bedroom, and inspiration to your studio’s walls. And it is my honor for you to allow me in your home, your life, and your heart.

ESSENCE.COM Black Girls Draw Series
People often ask me why I only draw girls, and the answer is simple: I love being a woman.
I love our strength, our convictions, our attitudes. I love our femininity, our curves, our constant determination to become better than we are. I love how we are friends, sisters, daughters, and mothers. I love the pinks, purples and soft blues of our dresses; the bright reds and deep turquoises of our nail polishes; the gems we love to adorn ourselves with; and the lovely perfume smells we leave behind when we exit a room. Although my womanhood does not define who I am as a person, being a woman, influences the way that I design, the way I approach my work as an illustrator, and the manner in which I run my company.
I started drawing girls because I was fascinated with our beauty. As I grow older, however, I am also inspired by the dedication of women who choose to make their lives, and the lives of others, better. Of course, I am influenced by my sister and mother, my friends, and by cool girls who have a good sense of self; but I am also energized by strangers who shape our society through their ideas, enthusiasm, courage, and successes. When I draw or design, it is for those badass women who know themselves and who strive to live great lives; by creating pieces in this context, it pushes me to strive towards my personal best and, day by day, become the woman I would like to be.
